The Business Secretary Sajid Javid has launched a consultation on the way restaurants, bars and hotels distribute tips, service charges and TRONCS to employees.
The Government consultation on tips, gratuities, cover and service charges, which will run until 27 June, asks for views on a number of proposals including replacing the current voluntary code of practice with statutory regulation to increase employer compliance, preventing or limiting employers from making non-tax related deductions such as payroll and payment processing charges and making it clearer to customers that suggested payments for service are discretionary.
